- 6.All liabilities under this Warranty shall cease if:
- i. The battery has been operated in an application that it was not designed for and/or marketed to support/Company's Application Chart.
- ii.The battery has been refilled with additives, dopes or any other substance besides distilled water that may have contaminated the battery.
- iii. Damaged due to fitment of additional accessories in vehicle other than the original fitment
- iv. Out of Warranty Period.
- 7.This warranty can be denied on merely discharged batteries and for batteries damaged due to abuse or neglect but not limited to the following:
- i. Damages to the battery caused by accidents, fire, faulty electrical systems, improper handling, service of battery by unauthorised dealers/auto electricians, wilful abuse, destruction by fire, collision, theft or recharging.
- ii. Breakage of container and cover or breakage/deformation of terminal due to mechanical shock like hammering.
- iii. Damage to the battery due to contamination of electrolyte. The electrolyte used must be pure dilute sulphuric acid conforming to IS specification number 266-1961. For topping up purposes pure distilled water conforming to IS specification number 1069-1964 must be used.
- iv. Failure of battery due to deep discharge, overcharge or improper topping up.
- v. Solar batteries are not connected through a charge controller to the Solar Panel.
- vi. Failure of a battery due to inadequate recharging and not as per the recharging parameters mentioned in the product leaflet (solar/inverter batteries).
- vii. Batteries are operated in discharged condition for long periods.
- viii. Inverter/solar inverter/charge controller 'lower cut-off' voltage is not working or has been tampered with leading to deep discharged state.
- 8.In the event of any particular battery model being phased out, the Company reserves the right to provide another model of the same capacity as settlement of Warranty.
- 9.In case a service battery is issued, it must be returned within 15 days, failing which a nominal charge per day will be levied.
- 10.The charging system & electrical circuit shall be checked by the Company's authorised personnel or dealer before finalising settlement of any Warranty Claim. Recharging of battery shall be billed as extra.
- 11.Adjudication and settlement of claim will take a couple of days as the battery has to be tested for the reported failure.
- 12.Any octroi duty or local tax which becomes leviable on the battery under repair or replacement shall be borne by the customer.
- 13.Customers are deemed to have read, understood and agreed to these conditions at the time of purchase.
- 14.All disputes or differences arising out of use of battery shall have exclusive jurisdiction at the courts of Kolkata.
Please refer to the application chart available at the respective purchase counters for recommended fitment.
Hints on care of your battery
- 1.Please ensure that the cable clamps fit tightly and properly on the terminals.
- 2.The top of the battery must be kept clean & dry. Petroleum jelly should be applied to cable clamps & terminals. Never apply grease. Terminal corrosion, dirt & moisture cause loss of power & make the battery weak.
- 3.Get your Inverter System checked regularly. A faulty electrical system will damage the battery.
- 4.The voltage setting of the Inverter should be such that the upper limit does not exceed 14.2-14.4V and the Inverter does not discharge battery below 11.0V.
- 5.The electrolyte level should be topped up depending on position of indicator float.
- 6.Use only distilled water for topping up. Do not top up with acid/electrolyte/mineral water or tap water.
LEAD: A friend turned foe
Lead, a major component of all batteries, is an extremely useful and friendly metal that does not corrode in water and can be used in many ways:
- 1.Roofs in buildings (wherever water ingress is a problem)
- 2.Provides effective insulation from noise
- 3.Is used in industries to protect pipes and cables
- 4.Lead pigments in paint protect steel construction against the impact of weather
- 5.Lead Oxide improves the quality of glass in the optical industry
- 6.Lead enhances the sparkle of crystal glass
- 7.60% of all lead in the world is used in batteries to store energy
However, this friendly metal can turn into a deadly foe if not used and handled in the correct manner. When lead is left unchecked in the atmosphere it can pollute the environment and cause lethal damage to organic life.
Lead in the atmosphere
Lead can enter our body through the skin or through inhalation. It gets absorbed in the lungs/digestive system and circulates as ionized lead in the blood. Many a times we ingest food and drink water that carry minute particles of lead.
Lead in the soil
Being heavy, lead enters the soil and sub-soil causing the level of lead in the soil and ground water to go up. This excess lead pollutes vegetation and affects fish, meat, livestock and human beings.
Smelting: A major cause of lead pollution
Smelting is a process by which used lead from an old battery is recycled for use in a new battery. However, there are thousands of local smelters who use crude smelting processes that are not environment friendly. Some of us junk our old batteries or give it to the kabadiwala. These land up in the hands of unauthorized local smelters. Their crude smelting process contributes majorly to lead pollution.
Caution
- Keep away from Sparks, Cigarettes and Open flames. These can cause explosions.
- Avoid metallic contact across terminals, as this can result in short circuits and sparking.
- It is strongly recommended not to use any additives or dopes.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Operating in closed environment may cause dangerous gases to accumulate.
